Caldwell County Emergency Management responded to a small plane crash at 920 Blue Sky Lane, Lenoir, at 5:24 p.m. today.
Early reports indicate that a small, experimental aircraft crashed in the woods line just short of the airstrip at Lower Creek Airport at 2005 Wildwood Road, Lenoir. The aircraft was registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
According to Dino Dibernardi, Caldwell County Emergency Services Director, one person was extricated from the wreckage by the Valmead Fire Department and was transported to the helipad at Caldwell Memorial Hospital/UNC Healthcare for medical airlift to Carolinas Medical Center.
The scene has been secured by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the FAA will be conducting the investigation.
